09:09 am: Humans: 1, Mice: 0
Last week I caught another mouse, this time behind my fridge.

Unlike the previous time, this one was unmistakeably dead. The trap's metal arm had come down right behind its head, and I believe killed it instantly. When I used by trusty barbeque tongs to examine the scene, the mouse and trap seemed to have become one object, almost a piece of sculpture depicting the instant the trap closed and the mouse died. Its head was curled up, and its torso sliced almost clear through, its feet splayed out and its tail stiff. I think it had been dead for half a day or more before I found it.

I put it in the trash, mouse and trap composite object, not knowing what else to do. I felt neither remorse nor satisfaction.

However, there are still mice skittering around in my kitchen, leaving little mouse droppings that look like tiny black grains of rice. I've lived in this building for more than ten years, and I've never had vermin problems like this.
